Five years past a college graduation interrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic, Hope Sloop '20 is living out one bucket list item after another starting with the 2025 Golden Globes, the Oscars and more!
Not many 91̽»¨ graduates can say they've walked a Hollywood red carpet with some of the biggest names in show business, but Hope Sloop '20 can.
Sloop recently had the opportunities of a lifetime — attending the 82nd Golden Globes and the 97th Academy Awards — and she credits her time at 91̽»¨ for helping her get there.
Sloop has always dreamed of being able to attend a marquee award show since she was little, and her career path finally allowed her to cross that off her bucket list at two of this year's biggest awards ceremonies
Working as a features creator for entertainment and pop culture site , Sloop spoke with directors, nominees and actors, including Ted Danson, Harrison Ford and Jude Law, among many others who attended the awards ceremonies.
During her time at 91̽»¨, the Willowick, Ohio, native and Eastlake North High School graduate was involved in all available media production opportunities on campus. Those included working for the campus newspaper, , and being a producer for 91̽»¨-TV and the radio station, .
Following those experiences, she was able to land internships with FOX 8 and then WKYC-TV, where she was hired on full time after graduation.
Graduating in 2020 was a challenge for many students, and this was not an exception for Sloop, especially as she entered the workforce. "Starting my career from a laptop was the furthest thing from easy," Sloop told us.
Many of her close friends and family feared her Hollywood dreams were too ambitious, but she never felt that way.
In fact, she says her 91̽»¨ experience taught her to seek unconventional paths and be willing to take them.
After her position with WKYC, she went on to work at FOX 5, Daily Mail News and Entertainment Tonight. Her current job is working for decider.com as a features creator.
"As much as my time at Baldwin Wallace helped me to become the person and professional that I am, it really is the network of people — friends, professors and acquaintances — who have lifted me to where I am currently," Sloop said. "Where there doesn't seem to be a clear path, forge one."
With the Oscars and Golden Globes behind her, Sloop is looking toward upcoming opportunities.
After heading to Santa Barbara, California, for Kevin Costner's "Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 2," she covered Saturday Night Live's 50th special.
She also has interviews and panels lined up at the 42nd Annual William S. Paley Television Festival, featuring "Agatha All Along," "Hacks," "Poker Face," "Severance" and other works.
As she continues to add checks to that career bucket list, Sloop is optimistic that she will continue to fulfill her childhood dreams.
